Choosing the right rug size for your bed

If you’re creating a beautifully layered bedroom, the rug size underneath your bed can completely change the feeling of the space. The goal is to make the rug feel intentional — not like a small island floating in the room.

King Bed

Best options:

  • 300cm x 400cm rug → the most luxurious proportion. Allows the rug to extend well beyond the sides and foot of the bed.

  • 250cm x 350cm rug → works well in smaller bedrooms.

Placement tip: Allow at least 60–90cm of rug to extend past each side of the bed so your feet land on softness when you get out.

Queen Bed

Best options:

  • 250cm x 350cm rug → ideal and balanced.

  • 200cm x 300cm rug → works if your room is tighter.

Double Bed

Best options:

  • 200cm x 300cm rug → usually the perfect fit.

  • 160cm x 230cm rug → only if space is limited.

Single Bed

Best options:

  • 160cm x 230cm rug → the ideal size for most single bedrooms. Allows the rug to extend beyond the sides and create a comfortable, styled look.

  • 200cm x 300cm rug → a more luxurious option if the room allows, especially for kids’ rooms, guest rooms, or when you want a more elevated designer feel.

Three ways to style a rug under your bed

1. Full bed placement (most luxurious)

The rug sits underneath the entire bed, extending beyond the sides and foot.

✔ Creates a high-end, hotel-style look✔ Adds warmth and softness✔ Best for larger bedrooms

2. Two-thirds placement (most popular)

The rug starts under the bedside tables and extends past the foot of the bed.

✔ Gives the same luxury feel with less cost✔ Works beautifully with layered bedding and benches

3. Runner rugs either side (small space solution)

Two narrow rugs placed beside the bed.

✔ Practical for apartments or smaller bedrooms✔ Still adds texture and comfort

Final Tip - A larger rug is usually one of the easiest ways to make a bedroom feel more expensive — it anchors every piece in the room.
